The Volunteer and Service-Learning Center's Alternative Break program will be hosting an information session regarding fall and winter break trip experiences focused on issues of homelessness and food-insecurity. At the information session, students will learn about the service work that will be done with community organizations, trip logistics, and receive a brief introduction to the social issues and the Alternative Break program. 'Alternative Fall Break: Homelessness Awareness in Buffalo, NY' will be held November 6–8, and 'Alternative Winter Break: Homeless and Food-Insecure in Washington D.C.' will be held December 18–23.
The Alternative Break program provide students an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning and service, critical reflection, and community building. Each trip is focused around a social issue that the students investigate prior to and during the trip experience through conversations with community members, community organizations, and volunteer projects that meet community need.
