Did you know that in the Western New York community, there are over 5,000 homeless individuals and 186,000 individuals who do not have regular access to food?
During National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, join the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center for our annual Volunteer Fair. There will be over 30 non-profit organizations on campus to speak with students, faculty, and staff about opportunities to serve the local, national, and international community around the issues of homelessness and hunger. Throughout the fair, you are also invited to spend 5-10 minutes on a service project provided by the non-profit organizations. Examples of service projects include making no-sew blankets for homeless shelters, and preparing emergency and winter care kits.
For over 30 years the National Coalition for the Homeless has spearheaded a national week to inspire communities, college campuses, and businesses to get involved in local initiatives to end homelessness and hunger. This year, the VSLC will facilitate Buffalo State’s participation in this national week through events that will provide opportunities to learn about hunger and homelessness in WNY.
