The University provides a variety of options from which students may choose. Some halls house first-year students exclusively, some house a mixture of students, and some are reserved for upper-division students. There is also specialty housing for specific groups and interests.

Residency Requirement

All full‐time freshmen and sophomore students whose permanent residency is beyond a 35 mile radius of Buffalo State are required to reside on campus FOR 4 CONSECUTIVE SEMESTERS OR UNTIL YOU EARN 60 CREDITS, whichever comes first. Those exempt from this requirement include married students, single parents, veterans, students over the age of 21, and students commuting from the home of their parent(s) or court appointed guardian(s) if within a 35-mile radius of the Buffalo State University campus.

  • All residence halls are equipped with security cameras at all ground floor entry and exit locations.
  • All residence halls ground floor entry and exit doors are equipped with an electronic door alarm monitoring system.
  • Residents must sign in all guests visiting their respective buildings and show identification for their particular residence hall.
  • All student entrance doors are equipped with an electronic proximity key system.  Proximity keys are computer programmed to allow access only during authorized periods of occupancy.  All access to the residence halls during break periods will be denied unless a resident is authorized to remain and occupy a room.
  • All residence halls are equipped with smoke and fire detection systems.  The Buffalo Fire Department and the University Police Department respond to any fire alarm detected throughout the campus.
