Students are able to request to remain on campus during extended breaks through the academic year. If a student is approved to stay there will be an additional fee for that period of time.
Thanksgiving Break 2024
While all residence halls and apartments stay open during this University closure, students who are planning on staying on-campus for all or part of the Thanksgiving break are required to sign-up for Thanksgiving Break Housing. To sign-up for Thanksgiving Break Housing, log into Banner
Click on “Student” tab and Click on “MyHousing”
For buildings aside from STAC and Moore Complex, if a student is approved to stay there will be an additional fee ($168.00) for that period of time.
- Halls close at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26th
- Halls Open at 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 1st
- Break housing will be available Nov. 26th, 2024 – Dec. 1st, 2024 for approved students.
- Students must submit a break housing application.
- During any academic break period there will be limited services available including dining and staffing.
Winter Break 2024-2025
Students requesting housing over winter break (including Family College residents) must complete a Winter Break Housing Application in My Housing.
- Halls close at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 13th
- Break housing will be available from Dec. 13th, 2024 for approved students.
- Students must submit a break housing application.
- During any academic break period there will be limited services available.
No dining facilities are open during Winter break. Residents will be expected to provide their own meals. - To sign-up for Winter Break Housing, log into Banner

- Click ‘My Housing’
- Click ‘Applications’ on the left side menu.
- Click ‘Winter Break 2024-25
Residents of Bengal Hall, Bishop Hall, Neumann Hall or Tower 1, 3 and 4, will be charged a $1,176.00 fee for winter break housing. Students living in Moore Complex or Student Apartment Complex do not need to pay the winter break housing fee.
Late Stay
If you need to stay past December 13, 2024 at noon, but will not need Winter Break housing, you may request a late stay. Late stays are only approved for travel related reasons. You may request a late stay by emailing reslife@buffalostate.edu. The email should include:
- The reason you need to stay late.
- Supporting documentation for your late stay (i.e. flight tickets).
- The date and time you need to stay until.
If you are approved, you are allowed to stay up to Sunday, December 15, 2024.
