The Den Academic Residence Community (ARC)

The Den is a residential community designed to support first-year R.O.A.R. (Recognizing Opportunities Achieving Results) 2 Success students academically, socially, and personally. Within this community, students will live and learn alongside one another while building a foundation for success.

Why Live in The Den ARC?

A first-year Roar 2 Success student will be eager to live in The Den as it provides a built-in, holistic support system that makes the transition to college easier. In this community, students have direct access to Success Navigators and Peer Mentors along with access to exclusive events, workshops, and resources.  Students will also be able to earn points in the “R.O.A.R. Rewards” program through identified opportunities and can redeem points for prizes.

Common Courses

Students within this community will take UNC 100: Mastering the Academic Environment, during the fall of their first semester. Additional common courses may be identified when working with assigned Success Navigator.

Location

In 2025-26 The Den ARC will be located in Bengal Hall

Residence Life reserves the right to move the community to another building if there is sufficient demand to warrant a larger community or not enough interest to warrant a smaller community.

How to Apply

All students are eligible to live in an ARC, no matter its location. When applying to live on-campus:

  1. Under “Add a New Living Request” select Request Type ‘Academic Residential Community’.
  1. Select your preferred ARC from the list.
  1. Click ‘Add’

You may select more than one ARC, however you will only be able to live in one ARC. It is recommended that you rank your preferred ARCs.

If selected, you will be notified via Buffalo State University email that you have been selected to live in the ARC. If you would like to withdraw your request to live in an ARC and instead live in a non-ARC community, you will email reslife@buffalostate.edu after you have been selected.

Once selected, you will only be able to select rooms and roommates that are associated with your ARC. If you have a preferred roommate who is not selected to be part of the ARC, then you will need to select another roommate or withdraw your request to live in the ARC.

All students wishing to live in an ARC, must complete their housing application and ARC requests by July 1.
